Microsoft gets Raped by a Texas Judge

By novo

word Oh the injustice! Okay, maybe it’s not that graphic. To be honest, Microsoft is probably getting what it deserves.

Toronto based, i4i, alleges Microsoft Word violates their patent (No. 5,787,449) on a method for reading XML.

On Tuesday, judge Leonard Davis, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, agreed with i4i and ordered Microsoft to halt the sale of Microsoft Word products capable of .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files (XML files) containing custom XML. The judge gave Microsoft 60 days to comply.

Botom.Paratus: Microsoft will appeal this ruling and probably win. The company will almost certainly not halt the sale of any Microsoft Word products, though the plaintiff (i4i) will more than likely receive a hefty settlement check.
